Südtirol Ultra Skyrace
Extreme running race along the high mountain trail

Harmonious overall package for the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace 2019

Bolzano, 5 February 2019 - From the 121 kilometres long and technically challenging Ultra trail to the  27 kilometres “short sprint” that can just as easily be accomplished as a hike - at the 7th edition of the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace from Friday, 26 to Sunday 28 July 2019, there is something for every taste and every level of difficulty. Since the first edition in 2013, the organisers of the extreme mountain run along the horseshoe shaped Hufeisen tour in the Sarntal Alps have also impressed with a comprehensive package of services ranging from well-equipped starter kits and sensational food and drink to massage stands along the route and at the finish.

The original distance of 121 kilometres with 7554 metres of ascent of the seventh edition of the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace now attracts extreme mountain runners from home and abroad. Over the last six years the extreme mountain race along the Hufeisen tour in the Sarntal Alps made a name for itself. Anyone who has picked up their finisher shirt and wears it full of pride and satisfaction in the weeks after the race will enjoy the respect of all runners in the trail scene. One thing is certain: The Südtirol Ultra Skyrace is not child’s play. Not a walk you casually set off on. Anyone who wants to make it to the finish line in this classic race, has to be physically and mentally well prepared. An absence of vertigo and surefootedness are absolute prerequisites to survive this challenge in the fantastic South Tyrolean mountains in one piece.

The other three routes also demand a high level of fitness, like the approximately half as long Südtirol Skyrace (69 km/3930 m altitude differential) and the Südtirol Sky Marathon (42 km/2863 m altitude differential). “From Bolzano the trail runners set off for Corno del Renon and then via Forcella di Sarentino to Chiesetta del Morto, where the descent to Sarentino village centre starts. While the marathon runners enjoy the celebrations of their top sporting achievement in the main town of Val Sarentino, the participants in the Skyrace break for refreshments before continuing up to Auener Jöchl pass and on to the stone cairns, down to the Alp Möltner Kaser and via Salto back to San Genesio. From there, it is another challenging 5 kilometres steep descent to the finishing line in Bolzano, that really take it out of the athletes”, chair of the Organising Committee Josef Günther Mair commented.

The Südtirol Sky Trail is also suitable for hikers

After last year’s sensational success the Südtirol Sky Trail  (27 km/1027 m altitude differential) will again be offered by the organisers at the end of July 2019. The start is from Piazza Chiesa in Sarentino. “The route is the same as the second section of the Südtirol Skyrace and is ideally suited for all athletes who are starting trail running and would like to gain a first experience in mountain running. But the distance is also ideal for any fit hikers who would like to test themselves in a sporting competition”, Mair explained.

Every year the organizers from the ASV Südtirol Ultra Skyrace attach great importance to a comprehensive and coherent package of services, which are already included in the registration fee. They range from a shuttle service to changing rooms,  places to sleep and showers in Bolzano and Sarentino, to the free photo service by the association Digital Video-Fotoclub Sarntal, an extensive starter package with high-quality finisher shirt and medal, and include massages by trained masseurs and physiotherapists and much, much more.

Registrations for all four distances are open here on the official websites. Until 31 May registration for the Südtirol Ultra Skyrace costs 140 Euro. Participation in the Südtirol Skyrace costs 90 Euro and in the Südtirol Sky Marathon 60 Euro. Registration for the Südtirol Sky Trail is 50 Euro.
